I run both Letters of Note and Letterheady. This is my personal weblog.
“I’m not sure if you’ve ever seen or heard of these, but every now and then, when Marvel Entertainment Group’s shareholders receive a quarterly report, it arrives in the form of a comic. It’s amazing, and results in some of the most surreal financial reporting known to man. Check these out…”
I received these scans, along with the above message, from a Letters of Note reader named Benji a couple of hours ago and I’m still fascinated. They’re apparently pages from various Marvel reports, in comic-book form. Also, do not miss the James Cameron appearance in the first image up there - a larger version of which can be seen here - presumably from a very early-1990s report as it mentions his attachment to the live-action Spider Man movie that never materialised. These are in no particular order. Enjoy:

A strangely desirable invoice - used as a prop of course - from the set of Ghostbusters II in 1989. It was sold at auction in 2003. While we’re on the subject of Ghostbusters-ephemera, below you will find a sheet of stationery I featured on Letterheady back in March.
I will forever be surprised by the things in life that please me.

Above: Donald Duck assaults Hitler with a tomato. This was the fantastic front cover of an issue of Dispatch From Disney’s, a magazine distributed by Disney in 1943 to its employees in the services. More info is available at The Animation Archive, however this particular image - a larger version of which can be viewed here - was found at RR Auction.
Of course, the cover illustration was also alluding to Der Feuhrer’s Face, an anti-Nazi cartoon of the same year that went on to win Disney an Academy Award. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, that 8 minute short can, and should, be viewed below.

An Aberdeen-based man snapped on Google Street View whilst donning a horse mask is apparently causing much fervent debate amongst readers of the BBC website, as evidenced by this article. For obvious reasons, the equine enigma has been named ‘Horse Boy”.
Mr. Boy can be seen on Street View itself by clicking here.
A person is only allowed to purchase 194 ounces of beer at a time in this manner. If you take the 194 ounces to your vehicle and re-enter the business, you can buy 194 more ounces, and continue doing so so long as you only take out 194 ounces of beer from the store at a time.

A person under the age of 21 caught consuming non-alcoholic beer will be arrested for underage drinking just as if they were drinking alcohol
Just incredible.

Over the weekend - no doubt as a result of the Walt Disney memo posted at Letters of Note last week - I received by email the above ‘Cartoon Continuity’ chart, copies of which were handed out to employees of Walt Disney’s animation studios back in 1946 in an effort illustrate the entire movie production process, from early research right through to ‘exploitation & release’. Fascinating stuff. Click here for a larger version.
Interestingly, another chart - this one focused more on the relationships between different departments within the organisation - was distributed in-house by Disney just three years previous and can be seen below. Larger copy here. Found at @issue.

He explained that “We’re at the studio at the moment… we’re in the heart of the record,” but added “the finishing line… it’s in touching distance” and, barring any last minute problems, the record will likely be completed in “a matter of weeks.”
O’Brien would give no real specifics, but did feel confident enough to say “I’m really excited… I feel like this is the best record we ever made. It really is genuinely exciting. It’s very different from what we did last time.”
Ed O’Brien reveals that the pleasingly prolific Radiohead are nearing completion of another album. The regularity is especially impressive considering the quality of each effort. You could say I’m excited.

Stunning.
Today’s consumer electronics, re-imagined and advertised in 1977. Really fantastic.
